3-year-old falls from window in Hungary, suffers serious head injury

A three-year-old child suffered a serious head injury after falling from a first-floor window in the western Hungarian city of Sopron, according to the Magyar Gyermekmentő Alapítvány (Hungarian Children’s Rescue Foundation).
Child airlifted to hospital
The foundation reported on Facebook that its unit based in Győr recently assisted in treating a young boy who had fallen from an apartment window. The three-year-old suffered a severe skull injury as a result of the accident.
According to information obtained by RTL Híradó, the child was transported to hospital by air ambulance. Despite the severity of the injuries, the boy is currently in stable condition.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, but the rescue foundation only disclosed the case several days later to draw attention to the dangers and help prevent similar accidents.
Rescue foundation warns parents
In its statement, the Magyar Gyermekmentő Alapítvány emphasised that it has previously reported several similar incidents and therefore considers it important to remind parents of the risks.
According to the organisation, small children are capable of climbing to places that adults may not expect. They often build makeshift “towers” from furniture and other objects and typically have no sense of danger at such a young age.
For this reason, the foundation recommends installing lockable window mechanisms in children’s rooms located on upper floors to reduce the risk of falls.
Police launch investigation
Hungarian police confirmed to RTL Híradó that criminal proceedings have been launched in connection with the incident. Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the circumstances of the fall.
Child safety organisations in Hungary regularly warn that window falls involving young children occur every year, particularly during warmer months when windows are more frequently left open.
