5 highly recommended Hungarian movies you can watch on streaming platforms – VIDEOS
There are many Hungarian movies and many movies created with international collaborations. In this list of Hungarian movie recommendations, there are movies that, although not fully Hungarian, were directed by an Oscar-winning Hungarian director. Most of these movies are easy to find on streaming platforms or online.
The Turin Horse
Béla Tarr, the iconic Hungarian director, made a movie that has a truly metaphoric narrative. The title itself makes a reference to the horse that German philosopher Friedrich Nietzche saw in 1889 as a man was hitting a horse. The philosopher went to the horse and hugged it, then his servant took him home, and Nietzche spent the rest of his life in silence, as his mental health was deteriorating. The movie, however, draws attention to a different story, to that of a Hungarian father and his daughter, but the horse remains an element in the movie. The storyline is truly unique, and instead of spoiling it, we present you the video of the full movie, as found on YouTube. You can also watch this movie on Netflix and Amazon.

White God
If you love and adore stories of cute puppies that become people’s best friends and do amazing things for them like Hachikō, the Japanese dog that waited for its owner even after he had passed away, this movie is going to surprise you.

I checked two of the movies you mentioned above. Neither of them were found on Netflix. Also, Sunshine is not allowed to play on YouTube due to copyright issues. You need to re check your story!
Dear Stephanie, thank you for pointing this out. We are sorry that you couldn’t find those movies on Netflix. Perhaps, it has to do with your location that’s why Netflix doesn’t show them to you. We have rechecked Sunshine on YouTube. You are right, it is no longer available there even though it used to be when the article was written. Unfortunately, it happens often on YouTube that movies are taken down from one day to another due to copyright issues. We hope that you will still enjoy the rest of the movies and we wish you a happy holiday season!
