85th Anniversary of KLM Amsterdam-Budapest Flight Celebrated
(MTI) – A KLM aircraft painted as in 1929 landed in Budapest to celebrate the 85th anniversary of launching the company’s Amsterdam-Budapest flight, on Friday.
The Boeing 737-800 was welcomed with a water salute on Liszt Ferenc International Airport.
Gajus Scheltema, the Dutch ambassador, told a press conference that KLM had been the first major western airline to fly to Budapest.
The city was one of the first European capitals KLM had included among its regular services, he said.
The ambassador noted that KLM has been a major contributor to trade between the two countries that totalled 4.3 billion euros last year.
The number of passengers KLM carried to Budapest went up by 40 percent over the past four years and revenues from the Budapest-Amsterdam service doubled during the period, he said.
