Croatian Government at Talks about US Intermediation with MOL
Zagreb, October 13 (MTI) – The Croatian government is at talks about the conditions of US intermediation with Hungarian oil and gas company MOL but no decision has been made yet, Croatian economy minister Ivan Vrdoljak said late on Sunday, the Croatian news agency HINA reported.
HINA said the minister told public television HRT in the interview that Croatia had not rejected or accepted the US offer and a decision would be made in due time. The government will soon formulate the concrete conditions under which Croatia can accept the US intermediation, he added.
HRT earlier speculated that the US offer is linked to concerns that MOL would sell its shares in Croatian peer INA to a Russian buyer.
Hungary’s ambassador in Croatia Gabor Ivan said in an interview published by daily Vecernji List on Saturday that the US had offered to help by intermediating between the Croatian government and MOL. The Hungarian company has accepted this and “as far as I know the Croatian side is still thinking about the offer.”
MOL has a little less than 50 percent of shares in INA. The Hungarian company and the Croatian government have long been in debate on the future of the company.
