Hungarian team to conquer Mount Everest without oxygen tanks for the first time – PHOTOS

The mountaineers of the Hungarian Everest Expedition have arrived in the base camp of Mount Everest. Dávid Klein and Szilárd Suhajda are attempting to conquer the world’s highest mountain without oxygen tanks for the first time in Hungarian mountaineering history, sokszinuvidek.24.hu writes.

The two Hungarian mountaineers are attempting to write Hungarian mountaineering history by climbing the highest peak of the planet, Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen.

The team left Hungary on March 27. In Kathmandu, Dávid Klein received their climbing permit, while Szilárd Suhajda acquired the remaining pieces of gear with Edina Török, the leader of the base camp.

From Kathmandu, the team reached the southern base camp in 8 days so as to allow their bodies to acclimate to the increasingly thinner atmosphere. To lessen the effects of altitude sickness and to speed up the acclimatisation of their bodies, the team took two rest days.

In the next two months, the mountaineers will ascend the mountain in several circles to establish their camps and prepare for the altitudes over 8000 metres. The expedition approaches the summit from the southern side, and according to their estimates and the usual progress, the summit climb is expected to take place in the second half of May.
