Hungarian Development Centre, Tisza EGTC sign cooperation agreement on regional development

The Hungarian Development Centre and the Tisza European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) signed a cooperation agreement aimed at promoting joint Hungarian-Ukrainian regional development in Uzhhorod (Ungvár) on Saturday.

Speaking before the signing of the agreement, Hennadiy Moskal, the governor of western Ukraine’s Transcarpathia County, said Transcarpathia prioritises cooperation with European Union member states, including Hungary.

He said the Tisza EGTC, founded in 2015 with the participation of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County and Transcarpathia County, was a significant step forward in strategic development for Transcarpathia because it allows for EU funds to be spent on regional and border infrastructure developments with the help of Hungary.

Hungarian National Development Minister Miklós Seszták called the Tisza EGTC a “success story” and a special and significant initiative.

“It is special because it is the first ever territorial cooperation programme established between an EU member state and a non-EU member state,” the minister said. Sesztak said it was significant because of its potential to lead to reforms as well as economic, environmental, infrastructure, cultural and educational projects that allow for the effective use of EU funds.

He said the Tisza EGTC was a “success story” because it strengthens cooperation between Hungary and Ukraine, acting as a bridge between them.

The minister reaffirmed the Hungarian government’s commitment to supporting Ukraine and its goal of advancing bilateral economic cooperation and strengthening joint initiatives between the two countries.
