Szijjarto calls for firm action against Islamic State
Brussels, December 3 (MTI) – The Islamic State (ISIS) is a direct threat “to the world of our values”, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in Brussels, and called for firm international action against that terrorist organisation.
Szijjarto spoke on the sidelines of the first meeting of a global coalition of some 60 countries to fight ISIS, and said that “it is obvious that the Islamic State strives to wipe out the Christian community in the region (of Iraq and Syria)” and insisted that protecting those communities was a “direct responsibility”.
The foreign minister noted that Hungary was helping international efforts with 70,000 euros worth of humanitarian aid, as well as 200 tonnes of ammunitions.
Szijjarto also called for prosecuting the perpetrators of terrorist acts. “All those who have committed horrendous crimes against Christian communities must receive their due penalty,” he insisted.
Participants in the meeting decided to maintain military assistance to countries in the region, and will make efforts to hold up fighters on their way to or from the region. As next steps, they decided to cut off financing for ISIS and handle the humanitarian crisis surrounding its activities. It is also important that the “real face” of that organisation should be revealed and to demonstrate that it has nothing to do with the Islamic faith or religion, Szijjarto said.
