Hungarian UN official praises Hungary’s efforts for sustainable development
Budapest (MTI) – Hungary has made a great effort to contribute to the international cooperation to ensure sustainable development, Hungary’s Janos Pasztor, recently appointed as the United Nations’ assistant secretary-general on climate change, told MTI on Sunday.

Since the global climate conference in Rio, Hungary has done a lot of work especially in the UN’s open working group, elaborating objectives for the next 15 years, he said.
Pasztor noted that Csaba Korosi, a co-chair of the working group, had been appointed head of the Hungarian President’s Office’s new directorate for sustainable environment, and said he expected a good cooperation with the new body.
In his position as assistant secretary-general, Pasztor said he would focus on efforts promoting a global agreement at the global climate conference in December 2015 in Paris.
“We need to make all efforts that the Paris conference yields a good result, because that is the most important issue. Unless we can address the problem of a changing climate, it could destroy everything else in terms of the economy, the environment, welfare and other aspects,” he said. Pasztor added that he would consider the Paris conference as successful if it could ensure that global warming does not exceed 2 degrees Celsius.
Pasztor said each country had its own responsibility in the process, though their contribution to fight climate change depended on their respective conditions.
