Hungary, Poland discuss plans to boost economic relations
Warsaw (MTI) – All political conditions are in place for expanding Hungarian-Polish economic and trade relations, Laszlo Szabo, state secretary of foreign affairs and trade, told MTI in Warsaw on Friday.
Following talks in Warsaw and Krakow on economic cooperation and energy security, Szabo noted that two-way trade had tripled between 2003 and 2013, with the turnover showing a slight Hungarian deficit.
The state secretary added, however, that Hungary had invested twice as much capital in Poland than the Poles in Hungary.
The Polish negotiators welcomed that Hungary had resumed gas deliveries to Ukraine, Szabo said.
Both sides stressed the need to make further progress in establishing a North-South energy corridor, he said.
Citing preliminary figures, the Hungarian embassy in Warsaw said that the bilateral trade turnover had exceeded 7 billion euros last year.
According to Hungary’s Central Statistical Office, Poland is Hungary’s sixth biggest trading partner.
