March 15 – Budapest mayor marks national holiday
Budapest, March 15 (MTI) – Mayor of Budapest Istvan Tarlos called for cooperation to achieve national goals in an address delivered at official commemorations of Hungary’s 1848 revolution on Sunday.
“Even today, we need to struggle and fight for our goals, but only the courageous can do that,” Tarlos said. He warned that in a changing world it is difficult to promote Hungarian interests without cooperation. “There is no strong statehood where divisions rule rather than cooperation, where individual or restricted group interests have precedence over the public good,” Tarlos insisted.
The mayor said that the message of the March revolution was that the country should be further improved through “cooperation based on a national minimum and mutual respect”.
In his address, Tarlos quoted the demands of the 1848 revolutionaries, and said that “let there be peace, freedom, and agreement”.
