Harassments are frequent among women working for BKV
According to Népszava.hu, almost 40% of asked female bus drivers have been exposed to harassment on their workplace, turns out from the survey carried out at Budapest Transport Privately Held Corporation (BKV).
BKV did a psychosocial risk assessment including all of its workers (10,000 employees). More than 50 questions were asked, among which they asked whether the employees suffered sexual, physical, or any other kind of harassment. The respondents remained anonymous, they only had to indicate their sex and the field of work.
In the technical area, 689 workers answered the questions, 27 of them were female. Two of them said they suffered sexual of physical violence from one of their co-workers. One answered ‘I don’t know’. Many more suffered uncategorised violence from their co-workers, 5 out of 27 women, which is 20%.
Half of female respondents, 13 people remembered to have been exposed to mocking in the workplace, and 6 more said ‘I don’t know’.
Among drivers, the situation of women is even worse, abuse is more frequent. In a regional survey conducted in a group of drivers, out of 1480 respondents 59 were women and 17 of them reported sexual and physical abuse. Four responded with ‘I don’t know’. Even more, 21 women said they were exposed to uncategorised harassment, which approximates 40%, while two responded ‘I don’t know’. Being exposed to verbal harassment is a general experience for women drivers, 41 out of 59 reported this, which is a 70% rate. BKV also inquired about sexual and physical violence committed by outsiders. Almost half of the female drivers, 25 out of 59 lived through such thing, which is an outstanding rate.
The study shows that not only women are victims of sexual and physical violence: 54 men reported on this in the technical field.
This is a rate similar to women’s, also approximates 10%. About 20%, altogether 100 workers responded that they have been victims of uncategorised harassment at the workplace, which is also similar to the findings among women.
39 men working in the technical area suffered sexual of physical harassment from an outsider, 20 more were unsure about this. This is also a 10% rate. 30% of the group of drivers, 425 men reported on harassment in the workplace, only 5% about sexual and physical abuse, and 8% about harassment from an outsider.
BKV was asked what the company does to protect its workers from becoming victims of sexual abuse. They said there was no need for such measures, since they got no feedback that gave reason for it.
