Social-service workers demonstrate against low wages
Budapest, May 29 (MTI) – A demonstration by social-service workers demanding higher wages was held in Budapest on Friday.
The protesters marched from Kodaly Korond on Andrassy Boulevard to Parliament square in the evening, to hear speeches on a stage erected there.
Addressing the demonstrators, Andrea Varga, the head of the Autonom trade union, said all 93,000 workers in the social sector were fighting poverty and had difficulties in day-to-day subsistence. She said the government has failed to hear them out on wage demands despite several street demonstrations in the past.
“The dialogue ends here,” she said, urging participants to “pull together”.
