Forex loan holders stage demo, sit-in 

Budapest, May 29 (MTI) – Some one hundred activists of a civil group representing troubled foreign-currency loan holders held a demonstration in front of the Justice Ministry building on Friday.

The activists later walked to Jozsef Attila street and started a sit-in which paralysed traffic in the area near the Chain Bridge.

They demanded the elimination of forex loans and holding banks to account. Following the two-hour demonstration by the ministry, the activists presented a petition with 300 signatures, addressed to Justice Minister Laszlo Trocsanyi, to the ministry’s deputy press chief.

In their petition, loan holders demand the suspension of all debt collection processes until the “legal settlement” of forint and foreign currency-denominated loans and borrowers’ reimbursement for damages.

The civil group lead by Laszlo Poka also demanded that any politician or banking official in power at the time of the introduction of foreign currency-denominated loans should be held accountable for fraud.
