The Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden spokesman said the animal shelters are built to provide a proper shade even during the heat waves. However, it won’t take long,  because a cold front reaches our country on Monday afternoon. From next Tuesday, we can expect a much cooler weather; there will be only 20-22°C in the capital’s region – colleague of the National Weather Service said.

Precipitation can occur occasionally on Saturday and Sunday too, but it’s very hard to define where. We can expect a higher proportion of rain on Monday afternoon, at the arrival of the front – he added.

The zoo isn’t unprepared for the heat wave, since it’s their 150^th season. The animal shelters provide a proper placement even during heat waves. There are some animals which like getting additional cooling, for example the elephants which are cooled with waters from hose – Zoltan Hanga said.

There are also humidity gates in the area of the zoo which cool the warmed-up bodies of the visitors.

In the case of pets,  the most important is the provision of drinking water. Dogs especially consume lots of water when they’re cooling themselves physiologically, such as panting. It also poses a threat if the animal is locked in a tight spot – like a car – where it can’t go to a cooler place – spokesman of the zoo said.
