Hungarian craftsmen to attend Santa Fe intl folk art market

Four Hungarian craftsmen will attend the International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe, US, which will host 150 artists from 50 countries between July 13 and 15.

Potters Gyula Borsos and Imre Szűcs, enamel artist Sándor Paál and weaver Zsuzsa Zsigmond are four of the altogether eight Europeans to attend. They follow in the footsteps of furniture maker and woodworker Levente Sütő, the only Hungarian so far who exhibited there.

As Sütő said about his art:

In my works I use the special techniques and paint recipes that survived for hundreds of years in my family. I make the carpentry, wolf-teeth and scarf-joints by hand. For surface treatment as adhesive, I use the pounce when blending the paint and the cheese-curd glue is also homemade (3 parts light cheese-curd, 1 part white lime). The resin, with which I treat the painted surface, is also made by myself.

The market is expected to attract some 20,000 visitors.

Facebook – International folk market Santa Fe

Honorary chair of the event is Nobel Peace Prize laureate economist Muhammad Yunus, who in his native Bangladesh was a pioneer of a microcredit and microfinancing system for entrepreneurs too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans.
