Hungarian Red Cross launches aid for migrants
Budapest, August 12 (MTI) – The Hungarian Red Cross has launched an aid programme to help migrants arriving in Hungary, the organisation said in a statement on Wednesday.
Hungary’s largest humanitarian organisation said it would support 72,000 people over three months with a budget of 92 million forints (EUR 300,000).
In the first phase, sanitary and information packages are being distributed to 1,800 families at Roszke on the Serbian border. It is also storing disinfectant, nappies, sanitary pads and games at the Roszke base.
These donations are worth 2.8 million forints and have been provided by the Amerikai Haz foundation and the Hungarian Red Cross’s own resources.
The organisation is continuing its programme offering psychological support.
It said in the statement that “illegal human beings” do not exist, only “vulnerable people who need help”.
