Migrant dies in car accident while walking from border
Budapest, September 10 (MTI) – A migrant died after he was swept off the road by a car while walking towards Szeged, south Hungary, from the border on Thursday early morning.
The man along with two others in his company were walking on road 5 when the accident happened, a local police spokesperson said. One of the three men died in hospital while the other two are treated for serious injuries, the spokesperson said.
Also on Thursday a Syrian national was arrested in connection with an attempt to smuggle four Syrians, who were travelling without documents, to Germany. The 46-year-old man was caught on motorway M1 near Bicske on Wednesday, police said on its website. The passengers in the car could not show proof of permission to stay in Hungary and were thus handed over to immigration authorities, the website said.
The Maltese Charity has set up medical tents near the Roszke border point in the south and started offering medical support to migrants, the organisation said.
