The latest Marvel movie is already a global success. The Avengers: Endgame movie is a hit in Hungarian cinemas, too, attracting close to 350 thousand people to the movies on opening weekend.Â
According to Origo, there were 343 240 tickets sold in Hungarian cinemas for the Avengers: Endgame movie between April 25th and 28th. The revenue created is over half a billion forints (about 1.6 million EUR).
Over the past eleven years, there had been 22 movies that are interconnected, involving dozens of Hollywood A-listers. In Hungary, it was such a success that it improved the previous week’s results by 200%. It is by far the most watched movie in the cinema right now – people went to it 25 times more than to the movie in 2nd place on the list, Wonder Park.
When it comes to the ten most watched movies, the majority of the 396 771 people comes from those who went to see the latest Avengers movie.Â
It is not only this weekend’s charts that Avengers: Endgame topped. Interestingly, it attracted about 140 thousand more people than the previous Avengers movie called Avengers: Infinity War. In fact, it attracted more people than the Star Wars: The Last Jedi movie that previously led the list with almost 300 thousand people.
This means that it is now not the Star Wars series that brought the biggest crowds to the cinema on opening weekend but the Marvel universe’s latest addition.
According to Origo, the movie was a major success in the US and Canada, too. About 350 million USD came in from the tickets, surpassing the wildest expectations. This also broke the previous opening weekend record that was incidentally held by Avengers: Infinity War. In the US, a record number of 4662 cinema rooms started playing Avengers: Endgame, some of them back-to-back all day. The 3-hour-long movie also received positive reviews – it has a 97%-approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In the US, the second most watched movie this past weekend was also a superhero movie called Captain Marvel. The third place went to a thriller entitled The Curse of La Llorna.
