Despite the government’s family scheme, population decline accelerates in January-July
Hungary’s natural population decline accelerated in the first seven months of the year as the number of births went down by 2.2 percent and the number of deaths was up by 0.8 percent compared with the same period last year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Thursday.
KSH said that there were 50,278 births in January-July, 1,111 fewer than during the same period in 2018.
The number of deaths was 77,821, up 586 on the same period last year, KSH said.
The rate of natural population decline was 6.6 percent higher compared with the same period last year.
The number of marriages went up by 13 percent to 32,095 during the period.
