Hungarian foreign minister: Transatlantic community needs to coordinate with Russia on Syria
Budapest, November 25 (MTI) – The settlement of the situation in Syria and the fight against the Islamic State will only be successful if the transatlantic community and Russia coordinate their efforts, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Wednesday.
The instability of the region surrounding Europe and the resulting pressure of mass migration on Europe have two main causes: the war in Syria and the growth of IS, Szijjarto said in a statement.
Successful action in these matters will only be achieved if the transatlantic community and Russia can agree with each other about the way to move forward, he said.
The lack of such an agreement will result in uncoordinated action and eventually the deepening of the crisis. A solution is not possible without either the transatlantic community or Russia, he said.
Szijjarto, who is currently on a visit to China, briefed parliamentary party leaders about the latest developments by phone on Tuesday after a meeting of the North Atlantic Council.
