Timetable information for the end of 2015 in PDF
There will be holidays in primary and secondary schools on 21 (Monday), 22 (Tuesday) and 23 (Wednesday) December 2015, therefore on 21 and 22 December the “workday timetable during school holidays” schedule, while on 23 December the “Friday timetable during school holidays” schedule apply.
On Wednesday/Thursday night (23/24 December), Friday timetable applies for night services.
Night transport services: from 16:00 on 24 December
In the morning and during daytime
On 24 December 2015 (Thursday), the last service of lines serving big malls and supermarkets will be around 13:00-14:00, while Saturday schedules apply for other transport services in the morning and during daytime – approximately until circa 15:00 or 16:00- and as in previous years, the last service departures are earlier than scheduled in the timetable. Afternoon and evening services
The last daytime services is adjusted to the last metro departures. As in previous years, after the last daytime transport services departing at around 15:00-16:00, night transport services start operating in Budapest with the regular transfer points. Tram line 6 operates every 7-8 minutes between 16:00 and 18:00, every 10 minutes between 18:00 and 20:00 and every 15 minutes after 20:00. In the afternoon and in the evening, night services operate similarly to night service frequencies, except for more frequent lines: between 16:00 and 18:00, bus lines 900, 907, 908, 909, 914, 914A, 916, 923, 931, 956, 973, 979 and 979A operate more frequently than usual.
Night services
On 24/25 night December 2015 circa after 23:00, Sunday-Thursday timetable applies for night transport services. Certain departure times of some night transport services are rescheduled or skipped. On 24/25 night, bus 914A does not operate (bus 914 with its usual headway time serves the full length of route of bus 914A).

Public transport services on 25- 26-27 December: Sunday schedules
On 25 (Friday), 26 (Saturday) and 27 (Sunday) December, public holiday (Sunday) schedules apply for public transport services. Lines will not be serving the stops at the big shopping centres, as those will be closed.
On 25/26 night (Friday/Saturday) and on 26/27 night (Saturday/Sunday), Saturday timetables apply for night transport services. On 27/28 night (Sunday/Monday), Sunday to Thursday timetable applies.
Public transport on 28, 29, 30 and daytime on 31 December: year-end schedules
On 28 (Monday), 29 (Tuesday), all day on 30 (Wednesday) and during daytime on 31 (Thursday) December 2015, workday schedules during school holiday apply while some lines (as indicated in their schedules) operate less frequently according to end-of-the-year schedule.
On 28/29 night (Monday/Tuesday), on 29/30 night (Tuesday/Wednesday) and on 30/31 night (Wednesday/Thursday), Sunday to Thursday timetable applies for night transport services.
On 31 December, most of the lines usually serving the big shopping centres will run on shortened or modified routes from 14:00 until their last service departures and will not serve the stops at the big shopping centres. The other daytime transport lines will be operating until their last scheduled departure times. Following the last departures of daytime lines, night services operate on more frequent schedules.
Public transport on New Year’s Eve: more frequent night services
Following the last departures of daytime lines, on New Year’s Eve night services operate on more frequent schedules. The following lines will run all night-long:
- Tram lines 4 and 6 on Grand Boulevard (Nagykörút) will run every 3-5 minutes until 2:00 AM, and between 2:00 and 8:00 AM will run every 5 minutes.
- The cogwheel railway (tram line 60) will operate at night as well every 60 minutes and from the direction of Városmajor to Széchenyi-hegy, Gyermekvasút will run at every quarter past the hour and from the direction of Széchenyi-hegy, Gyermekvasút to Városmajor will run at every 20 minutes to the hour.
Night services – with some exceptions – are provided with more frequency or higher capacity while some buses operate for an extended service period.
- Night transport buses 907, 908, 914, 922, 931, 950-950A, 956, 973, 990 will run three times more frequently than usual and
- Night transport buses 909, 914A, 923 as well as night transport buses 934, 941, 964, 979-979A operating all night will run twice more frequently than usual.
- The service period is extended of buses 916 and 940.
- On the routes of buses 901, 918 and 960, higher-capacity articulated buses will operate.
Please note that the usual connections between night buses are provided on New Year’s Eve only in case of the regular departures.

Public transport on 1 January 2016: Sunday schedule
On 1 January 2016 (Friday), public holiday (Sunday) schedules apply on public transport services. Lines will not be serving the stops at the big shopping centres, as those will be closed.
Public transport on 2-3 January 2016: regular weekend schedule applies
Saturday schedule applies for lines on 2 January 2016 (Saturday), while Sunday/public holiday schedule applies for 3 January (Sunday) 2016.
Ticket and pass purchase possible continuously during the holiday season
In Budapest and the metropolitan area, a total of 300 new ticket vending machines have been put into service with round-the-clock availability at most locations. Between 24 December 2015 and 1 January 2016, BKK Customer Service Centres and ticket offices welcome customers wishing to buy tickets and passes or those who need public transport-related assistance according to special holiday opening hours. Extended validity period of the annual passes
The validity period of annual passes valid for 2015 has been extended, therefore they can be used until 2:00 AM on 9 January 2016, instead of 2:00 AM on 6 January 2016. Among the annual passes valid for 2015, the validity period of the December slip of the following annual passes has been extended until 2:00 AM on 9 January 2016:
- Annual Budapest-pass, Annual Budapest-pass (business), annual pass (12 slips)
- Discounted annual BP pass
- Discounted annual BP pass (business)
- Discounted annual BP-pass for pupils
- Discounted annual BP-pass for students
- Discounted annual BP-pass for pensioners
- Discounted annual Budapest and Mol Bubi pass (business)
- Annual all-line Budapest-pass, Annual all-line Budapest-pass (business)
- Transferable annual Budapest-pass
The extension of the validity period is not applicable for the general annual passes since they can be purchased with any starting day, furthermore the extension of the validity period is not applicable for monthly, quarterly or other passes with short validity periods and also for the annual transport heritage passes.
Please note that MÁV-START Zrt. and VOLÁNBUSZ Zrt. make their own decisions about the extension of the expiry date of the listed pass types.

Purchase your annual pass for 2016 in time
BKK recommends that passengers purchase their passes in time since it is expected that a lot of passengers wish to purchase their passes after the long weekend (1-3 January 2016). Therefore, there may be long queues at several sales points operable by BKK. It is advisable that passengers purchase their passes during the off-peak period at Deák Ferenc tér, Ferenciek tere, Kelenföld vasútállomás, Keleti pályaudvar, Kőbánya-Kispest, Liszt Ferenc International Airport, and at the Customer Service Centres situated at Móricz Zsigmond körtér and Rumbach Sebestyén utca 19.-21 since the annual and other types of passes for 2016 are already on sale.
