Government to launch programme helping women work for pension
Budapest (MTI) – A government programme designed to help women close to retirement fulfill their employment requirements in order to qualify for a state pension will be launched on Jan. 1 next year, the economy ministry told MTI on Wednesday.
Women looking for a job for at least a month will be eligible, on condition that those aged 55 or above must have worked at least 37 years. Under recently amended laws, women can retire after 40 years in work. The state will take over the cost of employing women who are enrolled in the programme for a maximum of 8 months, up to a wage limit of 146 400 forints (EUR 466) gross per month. The employer must agree to keep the person in work for at least half of the period for which the subsidies were granted.
The programme will cost 1 billion forints and the government hopes that 1,000-1,300 women can be helped in this way.
