Coronavirus – Mayors of 14 Budapest districts ask government for cooperation
The mayors of 14 Budapest districts have asked the government in a joint statement to consider their councils partners in tackling the coronavirus epidemic, the Budapest mayor’s office said on Saturday.
District councils have to perform an increasing number of tasks related to the epidemic response from shrinking revenues and receive neither support, nor “satisfactory information” from the government to address the ensuing health and social crisis, they said.
The mayors said the government had launched the second phase of its management of the crisis with uneven burdens contained in a “package of unjust austerity measures” announced on Saturday.
They have called on the government to start consultations with the councils on the economic and social crisis management steps without delay.
