Debrecen bidding to be Europe’s Cultural Capital in 2023
Budapest, January 22 (MTI) – The city of Debrecen, in eastern Hungary, will submit a bid to be a Cultural Capital of Europe in 2023, Debrecen Mayor László Papp told a press conference on Friday.
Papp said that his city had aspired for the title in 2010, but Pécs, in southern Hungary, was selected instead.
This time round the title will be shared with a city in the United Kingdom.
Since the previous bid, Debrecen has completed several cultural projects such as a new Contemporary Arts Centre and the renovation of the open-air theatre in the Great Forest (Nagyerdő) area.
