Hungary November retail sales up 4.8 pc
Budapest, January 25 (MTI) – Retail sales in Hungary expanded by 4.8 percent in November from the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) confirmed data released on January 7 on Monday.
Retail sales increased by 4.3 percent, according to calendar year-adjusted data, revised slightly down from 4.4 percent in the first reading.
The unadjusted data was up from 4.1 percent in October while the calendar-adjusted increase slowed from a rise of 4.6 percent in the previous month.
Adjusted food sales rose by 1.7 percent in November, non-food sales were up 7.7 percent and fuel sales increased by 4.7 percent.
In January-November 2015, retail sales were up 5.6 percent, according to unadjusted data and grew by 5.7 percent, according to adjusted figures.
Retail sales continued to expand in Hungary over the past 30 months, and the data suggest that the sector will close an especially good year in 2015, an economy ministry deputy state secretary told a press conference.
Within the 5.7 percent growth in retail sales, online sales accounted for more than 20 percent in the first eleven months, said Mark Aron Lenner, noting that according to November data, Hungary posted the 8th biggest growth in the sector within the EU. He said Hungary’s retail sales sector is likely to expand by around 6 percent this year.
