Sex scandal: ex-mayor of Győr questioned as a witness
The former mayor of Győr, Zsolt Borkai, gave up his position after a sex video of him from two years ago surfaced. Now five people have been questioned by the police.
Attorney General Péter Polt has sent a response to LMP representative, Péter Ungár about the case, reported Blikk.
According to Polt’s response, a criminal investigation was started on October 15, 2019, regarding Zsolt Borkai, his associates and the footage recorded at their Croatian boat trip. The five people are suspected of blackmail as well as other crimes, such as violent crime against property and against human dignity, which they have been interrogated about.
In this case, Borkai has been questioned as a witness, but his statement cannot be made public, as it would harm the investigation.
Misuse of personal data means handling of personal data without permission, and recording such intim footage is an example of that, especially if the person in the video is unaware that they are being recorded. The punishment for the crime is one year imprisonment, but if the data is special, the detention could go up to two years.
The ex-mayor of Győr, Zsolt Borkai, was convicted of dishonest treatment causing a particularly significant property disadvantage and two more criminal proceedings are pending for other crimes. Still, he is yet to be questioned as a suspect in those cases. The police suspect, Borkai of helping a close friend of his, lawyer Zoltán Rákosfalvy, get land in Győr at a low price, which Audi then paid a large amount of money for, to build their factory there.
The footage, in which he is in an intimate position with a lady who was clearly not his wife, was leaked just before the municipal elections. The person who leaked the footage called himself the “Devil’s Lawyer” and threatened Borkai that he knew a lot more about him and the company he keeps.
Borkai apologised to his city, Győr, and he was re-elected as mayor of Győr on October 13. However, he resigned a week after his re-election.
