Hungarian government to allocate EUR 423.7m to developments in tourism
The government of Hungary will allocate an extra 150 billion Hungarian forints (469 million U.S. dollars) to the full revamping of tourist accommodations and other developments in the country, the head of the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) Zoltán Guller said on Tuesday.
“All privately-owned accommodations will receive one million forints per room for development and reconstruction,” the Hungarian news agency MTI quoted Guller as saying.
The government will also help restart the tourism industry by developing open-air pools and other attractions, according to Guller.
It is also funding the purchase of new ships to serve on Lake Balaton, he added.
Tourism contributed 13 percent of Hungary’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019, which the MTÜ expects to increase to 16 percent by 2030.

That is great! I hope they realize that it is OUR money they are spending! The people that LIVE HERE. WE should be considered FIRST and how it impacts us and spend money on US also. The tourist come to see who we really WERE. The Hungarians that built this city no longer exist – The 45 years of Communism took care of that! But there is still PEOPLE living here, whoever they are, speaking this funny , beautiful language, trying to MAGYARÁZ who they really are. We should be the ones commanding respect not them! Only then will they respect us. Tourist take off your “SHOES”! NO SMOKING! This is OUR house!
Excellent initiative. Hopefully more funds will be available to other sectors too, and to people in need.
