Hungarian football player nominated for the Golden Boy Award

Dominik Szoboszlai is listed among this year’s 100 nominees for the Golden Boy Award announced for a public vote. The award was established by Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport in 2003, and it honours the most talented European football stars under the age of 21 each year.

Previous winners of the prestigious award include Rafael van der Vaart (2003, Ajax), Wayne Rooney (2004, Everton and Manchester United), Lionel Messi (2005, Barcelona), Mario Götze (2011, Borussia Dortmund), Raheem Sterling (2014, Liverpool) and Kylian Mbappe (2017, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain). Last year, the prize was given to Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid). The distribution of the winners by position is the following: 9 forwards, 7 midfielders and 1 defender, Nemzeti Sport wrote.

The preliminary list consists of 100 nominees and twenty names are removed from the list each month during the public vote. A panel of 40 journalists selects the overall winner, including representatives from The Times (UK), De Telegraaf (Netherlands), L’Équipe, France Football (both France), Marca, Mundo Deportivo (both Spain) Bild (Germany), Blick (Switzerland), A Bola (Portugal), Ta Nea (Greece) and Sport Express (Russia). Each juror can nominate five players; they can give 10 points to the player they select as the best, 7 to the second, 5 to the third, 3 to the fourth, and 1 point the fifth nominee.

Dominik Szoboszlai is currently signed for Red Bull Salzburg.

In 2017, The Guardian listed the Hungarian midfielder among the 60 best young football talents, and several great European clubs are interested in the promising player.

As far as his recent accomplishments are concerned, he scored three goals in the first half of the SK Sturm Graz − Red Bull Salzburg game. On Sunday, Red Bull Salzburg played against LASK Linz, and Szoboszlai put Salzburg ahead before the 10th minute with his goal. He also and had two assists during the game.
