Hungary to offer consular services in France during UEFA event
Budapest, February 9 (MTI) – Hungary will operate temporary consular services in three French cities where the Hungarian soccer team will play in the 2016 UEFA European Championship during the summer, the foreign minister said on Tuesday.
The consular services will be offered from June 5 in the offices of Hungary’s honorary consul in Bordeaux and Marseille, and in the Hungarian House in Lyon, Péter Szijjártó told a press conference.
“Our responsibility is to take necessary steps to provide for the safety and rights of Hungarian citizens”, who could attend the events in large numbers, he said.
Sándor Csányi, president of the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ), said at the press conference that their security staff and Hungarian police officers will also be on duty during the matches.
Hungary’s national eleven defeated Norway in a playoff in November last year to make its way to the European Championship for the first time since 1972.
The national team will play with Austria on June 14 in Bordeaux, Iceland on June 18 in Marseille and Portugal on June 22 in Lyon, in Group F.
