SURVEY – Support up for stronger Hungary-Russia economic links
Budapest, February 17 (MTI) – Public support for boosting Hungary-Russia economic ties has risen by one third over the past year, a survey by Nézőpont Institute released on Wednesday shows.
Last January, 38 percent of all Hungarians supported efforts to develop stronger Hungary-Russia economic ties and this has increased to 49 percent in 12 months, Nezopont said. This is close to the level where it stood before the Ukraine crisis erupted in January 2014, when it was 55 percent, it added.
In August 2014, some 49 percent said they supported stronger ties, and this dropped to 44 percent by August 2015.
This January, some 12 percent said the ties should be scaled back, as against 20 percent in January last year and 9 percent a year earlier.
Nézőpont prepared the survey by phoning a representative sample of 1,000 people between January 22 and 24.
