Bayern and Sevilla to contest European Super Cup in Budapest
Bayern München lifted the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League trophy last night and thereby secured their place in the Super Cup final in Budapest’s Puskás Aréna against Sevilla, who won this year’s Europa League last Friday.
It will be a German-Spanish European Super Cup final in the Puskás Aréna on 24th September after Bayern defeated Paris St Germain 1-0 in the Champions League final on Sunday evening and Sevilla overcame Inter 3-2 in Friday’s Europa League denouement. Both clubs have won those respective competitions six times, all of Sevilla’s UEFA Cup/Europa League triumphs coming since the turn of the millennium while Bayern have tasted Champions League glory three times in the same period.
UEFA has not yet decided whether fans will be able to enter the stadium for the match but according to current plans, the tie in Budapest would be the first competitive UEFA match to which fans might be admitted since the Coronavirus pandemic started.
