Deputy speaker hails Sejm adoption of Polish-Hungary solidarity year decree
Warsaw, February 26 (MTI) – The deputy speaker of Hungary’s parliament welcomed the passing of a decree by the lower house of Polish parliament which declares 2016 a year of Hungarian-Polish solidarity.
János Latorcai was present at the unanimous vote in Sejm on Friday.
Under the decree state celebrations will be organised throughout the year to mark the 60th anniversary of the anti-communist Poznan uprising in June 1956 and Hungary’s anti-Soviet revolution four months later, as well as the 1,050th anniversary of the Polish people’s conversion to Christianity.
A vote on a Hungarian decree with the same content is scheduled for February 29 in the Hungarian parliament which will be attended by a Polish parliamentary delegation.
During his official visit to Warsaw, Latorcai held talks with Speaker of Parliament Marek Kuchcinski on Thursday.
They agreed that during the year exhibitions will be organised in both countries’ parliaments.
In September, the city of Przemysl will inaugurate at its main square a memorial dedicated to Polish legionaries and Hungarian Hussars who fought together during WWI.
