The Tüske swimming pool, which is next to the Tüske Hall, was opened yesterday in District XI, Budapest with the “Champions of the Future” competition, nemzetisport.hu writes.
During the ceremony, Anita Boros, Deputy Minister of State for State Property from the Ministry of National Development, said that the new indoor-pool has a 50 metre long ten-lane competition pool, and a 25 metre long pool with an adjustable bottom for warming up and training. The complex’s viewing area can accommodate 1000 people.
The project cost 3.2 billion HUF+VAT and was entirely covered by the government. Boros added that Hungarians should be proud of the complex, which will be managed by the National Sport Centres, and can help the competitors to train for the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2017 World Aquatic Championships.
István Simicskó, former Minister of State for Sport and Youth Affairs, currently Minister of Defence, stated that in order to become an athletic nation the country has to make sacrifices; that’s why he’s glad that more and more sports facilities are built in Hungary. The results, he said, are visible: while in 2010 only 230,000 students played competitive sports, this number has recently increased to 400,000.
Tamás Hoffman, a mayor of Budapest, said that the Tüske Hall was the shame of District XI for 16 and a half years, but finally, Budapest and the whole country can be satisfied with the results of the renovation, and the complex will sure please those local citizens who wish to do some exercise.
The Tüske Hall project started in 1993 but came to a halt in 1996. The government decided in 2012 about the continuation of the project, which has cost more than 9 billion HUF.
