Coronavirus – Opposition district roma councilor Balogh dies aged 28
Lajos Balogh, a councilor of Budapest’s 8th district, has died at the age of 28 of the coronavirus, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said on Facebook on Monday.
Karácsony called Balogh “an activist, a musician, an educated man” who “fought with all his strength … against all forms of discrimination, exclusion and hate-mongering, and for the coexistence of Gypsy and non-Gypsy Hungarians.”
Balogh left an “enormous and weighty legacy … it is our responsibility to pass it on,” Karacsony said.
Balogh was a representative of the Momentum-Democratic Coalition-Socialist-Párbeszéd-LMP-Szolidaritas coalition in the district.

Sincere condolences. A tragedy that this wonderful young man has died. He was a shining example of tolerance and hope in these increasingly troubled times.
