Hungary’s foreign minister discusses ties with Latvian official
Budapest, March 16 (MTI) – Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó held talks with Andrejs Pildegovics, Latvia’s state secretary for foreign affairs, in Budapest on Wednesday.
As close allies in NATO, the European Union and the United Nations, Hungary and Latvia both support NATO’s further enlargement in light of security challenges faced by the Euro-Atlantic community, the Hungarian foreign ministry said in a statement.
They also support the EU’s eastern partnership programme, including the community’s cooperation with Belarus, it said.
Since both countries have EU’s external borders to protect, they agreed on the importance of doing so, “not only in words but in deeds, too,” the statement said.
Pildegovics thanked Hungary for its participation in missions patrolling the airspace of the Baltic states.
The Latvian official is in Hungary to attend events marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Hungary and the Baltic states.
