1956 memorial unveiled in Uzhhorod
Uzhhorod, March 19 (MTI) – Csaba Latorcai, cabinet deputy state secretary for social relations, attended the unveiling ceremony of a memorial to Hungary’s 1956 anti-Soviet revolution and to communism victims in Uzhhorod (in Hungarian: Ungvár), in western Ukraine’s Transcarpathia (in Hungarian: Kárpátalja) region, on Saturday.
Addressing the ceremony, Latorcai said the unveiling was to mark the anniversary of a trial of Hungarian secondary school students in Uzhhorod who were accused of involvement in anti-Soviet activities.
In his address, regional governor Hennadiy Moskal praised the heroism of the Hungarian people and young Hungarians in Transcarpathia who rose against Soviet rule.
The unveiling was attended by 1956 veterans and representatives of local Hungarian organisations.
