Two-thirds of Hungarians see migration as EU’s ‘biggest problem’
Budapest (MTI) – Two-thirds of Hungarians considered migration the European Union’s “biggest problem” in September 2015, a study released by pollster Tárki on Monday shows.
Within the total EU population, the proportion of those who saw migration as the bloc’s biggest challenge tripled between 2013 and 2015 to 47 percent. Two-thirds of respondents in the Czech Republic, Italy and Estonia also said migration was the number one issue.
Sweden showed the most positive attitude toward the EU’s migration policies, followed by Germany, Luxembourg and Denmark.
The study found that the Czech Republic and Slovakia were overall the most opposed to migration. Hungarians and Bulgarians were opposed to migration but not completely opposed to the EU’s policies. Greece and Cyprus were the least accepting of migrants but were in favour of common EU migration policies, the study found.
