Orbán: Békéscsaba to get EUR 48m in development funding

Budapest (MTI) – The city of Békéscsaba, in eastern Hungary, will receive over 30 billion forints (EUR 48m) in development funding as part of an agreement Prime Minister Viktor Orbán signed with the local mayor while visiting the city on Tuesday.

In the framework of its Modern Cities programme, the government sees Békéscsaba as a city “full of untapped potential” rather than one that needs help, Orbán told a press conference at the City Hall. He added that he had “brought work to the city”, which can be taken advantage of with help from the government.

Disclosing details of planned developments, Orbán said the M44 dual carriageway will definitely be built “before the next local elections” and an agreement was concluded on building a cooler facility with a budget of 12 billion forints. A training centre for printers will be established in the city and Hungary’s biggest market space will be built with a budget of 5 billion forints, Orban said.
