Justice ministry: Hungary closely cooperates with UN on enforcement of human rights

Budapest (MTI) – Human rights enforcement is highly important and Hungary is closely cooperating with international organisations such as the United Nations Human Rights Council accordingly, the justice ministry’s press chief said on Tuesday.

A Hungarian delegation led by Justice Minister Laszlo Trocsanyi has arrived in Geneva to present its report at the Human Rights Council as part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), Gabor Kaleta said. The Hungarian delegation is scheduled to appear before the body on Wednesday afternoon.

The UPR has been carried out every five years since 2008 after the restructuring of the Human Rights Council.

The first review of Hungary was conducted in May, in 2011, followed by an interim review in 2014.

The Hungarian delegation will seek to allay any concerns about human rights practices that may arise, said Kaleta.
