House speaker urges closer inter-parliamentary links in central Europe
Budapest, May 5 (MTI) – House Speaker László Kövér stressed the need to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Visegrad Four countries and to involve further countries in it on Thursday.
The Visegrad countries can rely on one another in the increasingly sharper debate on “the road the European Union should follow”, Kövér said after talks with his Polish counterpart Marek Kuchcinski in Budapest.
The pressure the EU and some old member states “exert on us to accept the mandatory migrant quotas” stems from the crisis which can be qualified “as Europe having lost its identity,” he said.
Kuchcinski, the Marshall of the Sejm, said that the 1000-year-old history of Polish-Hungarian ties “had never seen any major factors that would have put us on the opposite sides of the barricade.”
He noted that the two parliaments had declared 2016 the year of Hungarian-Polish solidarity, marking the 60th anniversary of the anti-Soviet uprisings in Poznan and Hungary.
