President Áder welcomes app supporting waste removal
A new application by an ecological foundation has helped removal of 10,000 cubic metres of illegally deposited waste, President Janos Áder said in his latest environmental Blue Planet podcast on Monday.
In the programme, the president had a conversation with environmental engineer Balázs Kertész, and said that the Eco-generation of the Future Foundation had received 7,000 calls reporting on illegal waste dumps across the country.
Kertész, the head of the foundation and the proponent of the initiative, said that Eco-generation followed up on each call and forwarded the information to relevant authorities. He noted that under Hungarian law, the owner of an area was responsible for any illegal waste deposited there, and could be obliged to remove the waste.
The president said that prevention was of paramount importance, and called for a “shift in attitudes”, the use of surveillance cameras, as well as “exemplary” punishment for perpetrators.
