The Kúria, Hungary’s supreme court, on Wednesday granted its approval to referendum questions aimed at preventing property from being transferred to China’s Fudan University and at extending the job seekers’ benefit to a maximum 270 days.
Â
The questions were two of five initiatives proposed by Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony in July, and approved by the National Election Committee.
Â
Later on, however, both questions were referred to the Kúria. The first one was challenged on the grounds that it was ambiguous and affected obligations stemming from an international agreement and the second one with the argument that the outcome would impact the central budget. Under Hungarian law, referendums cannot be initiated on subjects which would affect obligations stemming from an international agreement and ones that involve changes in public finance.
Â
In its Wednesday ruling, the Kúria upheld the committee’s earlier approval of both questions.
Â
Karácsony said in reaction that the signature drives for the referendum initiatives would begin in the coming days. The mayor said on Facebook that his Párbeszéd party plans to collect 200,000 supporting signatures before the end of the year “so that we can have a say on our future”.
Â
Â
Karácsony said referendums were not for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to
Â
“pit people against each other with fake questions”, adding that “the word of the people is not his word”.
Â
He said the opposition would not allow the government to “build a Chinese elite university” in an area designated for a student quarter. A referendum is needed so that the government could see that “the people need affordable dormitories for their children, not investments that serve Chinese interests and drive taxpayers into debt”, he added.

Karácsony is a clown but this is a good referendum. I wonder who put together the anti Communist China Fudan University referendum for him He is not smart enough to get it done.
It is a good thing that Hungarians can vote on it. I don’t want communist China University in Budapest. I don’t approve getting too chummy with Communist China and Muslim dictators. They smell trouble for Hungary.
Hungarian people should take advantage of being a part of the EU union and try to help their country to be more developed not biased to eastern totalitarians like China and Russia. It’s time for them to relieve themselves of being east-biased.
there is no beneficiary of being allied to the Chinese, they will swallow all your existence little by little.
I don’t know how much of chumminess with Xi’s communist China, Erdogan’s Turkey and Aliyev’s Azerbaijan (all genocidal murdering dictators) are natural and how much of it is forced on Hungary by the anti-Hungarian, globalist, Soviet like EU interference in Hungary’s internal affairs.
Trying to force Hungary to allow Soros funded LGBTQ agents in Hungarian schools and violent hordes from the Middle-East and Africa forces Hungary to look for partners outside of EU. I don’t like it but understand the position of Hungarian government.
Put the blame where it belongs, on the Soviet like EU.
I took-up arms against the Soviet Union but Russia is not the Soviet Union and Putin is not Stalin. The West loved the Soviet Union and kissed Stalin’s behind but hates Russia and Putin. Where is the logic in that?
The West has no moral authority to criticize Hungary for not wanting to jump on the West’s hate Russia bandwagon. Hungary and the West needs the Russian gas. Cannot live without it,
Both China and the EU have EXACTLY the same end goal … TOTAL AUTHORITARIANISM and it is called “The new world order” (What China is presently the world will become and worse in due course if we do not stand up) … I would co-operate with both but remain 100% sovereign – but this would be wishful thinking as all political parties are dancing to the same tune worldwide in achieving their diabolical endgame . Freedom and free critical thinking are dirty words and cannot be thought or stated anymore.
“A Free Person” – gives a simple not overly complexed explanation why Hungary should remain in the European Union and for it’s – Future – the retainment of it’s – Sovereignty – not to exhibit a position as a Country, that factually within its Economic & Financial Structure – the “bias” to the Governments and Regines under Totalitarian – of China and Russia.
Hungary – we are the meat or the central part of a Sandwich.
Hungary – the sandwich is being attacked – eaten from both sides – by the Chinese & the Russians – wanting to get to the “core” ingrediants of the “treat” of the sandwich – the meat of the sandwich and the ingredients covering it – it’s compliments – which in this example is – Hungary.
The race is on – evidenced around our lives in Hungary for ALL to witness and see – and who – if we do not act to CONTROL it – who gets the BIGGEST bite and consumes the vast piece of the Sandwich.
History – Never Lies.
China & Russia – read History behave like that of a Jackal.
Jackal – broadening of the word usage, it is that they “seek to gain advantage, or profit from the difficulties of another”.
They invited and permitted to BITE into the Sandwich – that is feeding the Jakal(s).
