New time-based public transport tickets are available in Budapest
Two types of time-based public transport tickets have become available in Budapest. Passengers can use the new digital tickets for multiple transfers and can complete any journey, with a duration of 30 or 90 minutes, in the Hungarian capital.
From 1st March, 30 and 90-minute time-based tickets have become available on Budapest Public Transport (BKK) services. According to BKK’s announcement, the new tickets allow passengers to complete any journey within Budapest that started within the validity period, even if it lasts longer than 30 or 90 minutes.
The freshly introduced time-based tickets offer a wallet-friendly travel solution. While a regular line ticket costs HUF 350 and can only be used on one vehicle, the new time-based tickets can be used for multiple transfers and round trips.
The new ticket types include a 30-minute ticket that cost HUF 530 and a 90-minute ticket available for HUF 750.
Both can be a good alternative if you want to make more than one transfer during your journey. Any journey started within the validity period can be completed, even if it takes longer than 30 or 90 minutes. The half-hour ticket is recommended to those who transfer to another line or would like to return on the same line. The longer version 90-minute ticket is suggested to those who would like to make a round trip in either direction and transfer to another line several times. Moreover, in some cases it can be used for up to 120 minutes, as a journey started within the validity period can be completed up to the final destination within Budapest. The new time-based tickets are available only in digital format.
Passengers can buy them online in the BudapestGO app.
The new ticket types will only appear once the application is updated. Those who have already installed BudapestGO or its predecessor, the FUTÁR application, on their phone, will have to update the application to buy the new tickets – reported by the Hungarian news portal Napi.hu.
The digital tickets can be validated by scanning a code when boarding a vehicle or entering the metro area. This must be done at each transfer to prove that you have boarded the vehicle within the selected time limit. As the Hungarian news portal Index reports, BKK has already issued these code stickers on all of its vehicles, as this was also necessary for the introduction of the digital line ticket. BKK has pointed out that the ticket must be validated before the start of the journey, i.e. when boarding, as there are no code stickers in the passenger compartment of the vehicles. Once the code has been scanned, an animated image is displayed and must be shown in the event of ticket control. The time-based ticket is also accepted on HÉV and Volánbus services within the administrative boundaries of the capital.
