A two-time Hungarian Olympic champion has died in Las Vegas 1.5 months ago – UPDATED, CORRECTED
Two-time Olympic champion Hungarian gymnast Margit Korondi has died at the age of 88, her former teammate Alice Kertész told the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB) in agreement with the family of the deceased.
Korondi died in her Las Vegas home after a long illness, MOB said in an obituary on its website [correction below – DNH]. According to the daily Magyar Nemzet, she passed away on March 6 – MTI, the Hungarian News Agency, reported.
Korondi won her first Olympic gold on uneven bars in the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. Four years later, in the Melbourne Olympics, she was member of the team that triumphed in the portable apparatus event.
She also bagged two silver and four bronze medals in these two Olympics.
After the Melbourne Olympics, Korondi
emigrated to the United States and settled in California where she became a swimming, gymnastics and fitness trainer, and promoted healthy living.

Following our article, the daughter of Margit Korondi wrote us corrections regarding her mother’s death. Below you can read part of her email:
“(…) my mother died in California where she has been living with me ( her daughter) since 2018. Third, my mother was not suffering from any illness she simply went to sleep and never woke up. It was just her time. She died Sunday, March 6, 2022 in the morning. Thank you for your attention to these mistakes I hope you will write a correction in one of your upcoming papers.
