3+1 great cafés to study in Budapest

Change language:

Are you bored of the usual chain coffee shops? Can you study better when you are surrounded by other people also doing their tasks? Here are a few suggestions for places to visit!

Magvető Café

Address: Budapest, Dohány u. 13, 1074

Opening hours: Mon–Sat: 11h–21h, Sun: closed

Magvető, one of the best-known publishing houses in Hungary, has its own café. On most evenings the café is full of international students with their laptops and notes. Its minimalistic, cardboard style with lots of books does not allow any distractions for the guests. While you can also come here to have a coffee and chat with your friends, this place is mostly for those who want to study, so peace and quiet is provided most of the time. If you sit on the “stairs”, you can also charge your electronic devices. Compared to other places in Budapest, prices are good even for a student budget. If you can, reserve a place the previous day since this café is quite popular. Also, since Magvető holds literary events every now and then, check if there is a private event on the day you are planning to visit. For an after-study program, you can go to the Synagogue since it is only 300 m from there.

Mon Chéri Coffee Shop

Address: Budapest, Károly krt. 12, 1052

Opening hours: Mon–Sat: 7h–23h, Sun: 7h–19h

Very close to Astoria, Mon Chéri is easily accessible if you are looking for a place to study after classes. The spacious café might not look so serene from the outside, but if you go a bit further into the place, you will find the study section. There are individual tables but also a long, classical looking table (if you are a fan of the dark academia aesthetic, this is your place to go), with desk lamps and power outlets provided wherever you sit. Of course, there is also a big selection of books in the background that gives you the library vibes.
