New restrictions at MOL petrol stations in Hungary from today!
On Friday morning, a new limit of fifty litres of fuel per day has been introduced at MOL petrol stations. From today on, you can only fill up with fifty litres of fuel at low-pressure pumps with Hungarian plates at the official price.
Quantitative limit
According to hirklikk.hu, filling stations with low-pressure pumps allow you to fill up to fifty litres of fuel per day at the official price for a car with Hungarian licence plates. At high-pressure pumps, Hungarian-registered vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes and agricultural machinery will continue to be able to buy fuel at the official price without any quantitative limit.
In addition, it has been stipulated that, from Friday, petrol or diesel canisters or containers will only be able to be filled with petrol or diesel at market prices.
Market price and how to avoid having to pay more
It is also important to note that if someone fills up both the can and the car, they will be charged the market price in both cases.
“If the refuelling of a vehicle’s fuel tank and external container is carried out at the same time in a single transaction, the market price at the filling station will be applied for the total amount of refuelling,”
says the Facebook post of MOL’s Kőszeg station, also explaining how to avoid this:
“We kindly ask our dear customers that if they would like to fill up an external tank in addition to the petrol tank of their vehicle, they kindly do so as a separate transaction, separate from the filling up of the petrol tank, after settling the purchase price of the filling up of the petrol tank.”
They added that compliance with refuelling rules is constantly monitored via their security cameras.
Petrol stations still need time
The system does not yet work smoothly, writes Index.hu, the 50-litre restriction has not yet been implemented at some MOL stations, or not well, Eszter Bujdos, the managing director of holtankoljak.hu, told Index about this.
“We have heard stories of people who exceeded 50 litres and had to pay the market price for a full tank. There have also been examples of the staff stopping the filling up of trucks after 50 litres,”
the manager of holtankoljak.hu reported.
