Travel 2014 Expo Opened On Thursday
(MTI) – Quality transport infrastructure is a pre-condition for tourism development and the government has made maximum effort to develop transport links in the recent period, a national development ministry state secretary said at the Travel 2014 expo that opened on Thursday.
Sara Nemes said the government made it clear back in 2010 that it considered railways a basic strategic area and managed to reduce the debt of Hungarian state railways MAV by 60 billion forints in three years without lay-offs and austerity, MAV said in a statement. Developments were carried out on more than 300 kms of railways last year, she added.
Special emphasis has been placed on developing international links, with MAV’s current timetable including railjet services between Budapest and Vienna-Munich every two hours, the Dacia express running throughout the year between Vienna and Bucharest, and a new service launched in the direction of Zagreb and Slovenia, Mav-Start managing director Csaba Ungvary said.
Budapest Airport, the operator of the Liszt Ferenc International Airport, said new developments include low-cost airline Norwegian to operate weekly three services between Budapest and London Gatwick in its summer schedule and Transavia France to launch three weekly services between Budapest and Paris Orly on April 15. Catalan airlines Vueling will fly weekly six services between Budapest and Barcelona from June to September and Air Serbia will operate a daily service between Budapest and Belgrade. Israeli company El Al’s low-cost airline UP will start flights between Budapest and Tel Aviv, the statement added.
