Hungarian construction worker won 5.1 million $ in NY as compensation!
Attila, a young construction worker, arrived in the United States from the Hungarian city of Miskolc. He started to work in the construction sector, and everything went just fine for him until 2019. He worked then in New York and suffered an accident in his workplace. Here are the details and how he could receive 5.1 million dollars as compensation.
A gigantic compensation
According to borsonline.hu, Attila suffered a tragic accident in New York that almost caused his death. The Hungarian news portal says that a skylight fell on him. To make matters worse, he stood on a ladder when the accident happened. When the skylight hit him, he fell and broke both his heels. As a result, he needed immediate surgery and was then unable to work.
A Hungarian-born attorney, Péter Rónai, offered him legal representation. With his help, he brought the case to court in the USA. Based on its recent verdict, he won 5.1 million dollars. That is more than 2 billion Hungarian forints. That means the construction worker and even his family will never have to work again in their life.
This is not the first big success
Péter Rónai works together with his wife, Holly. He regularly represents Hungarians in the USA, even in cases which seem to be hopeless. He represented successfully the Hungarian victims of the 2010 fatal accident of Philadelphia’s duck boats. According to the 2012 verdict of a federal court, the operators of two vessels involved in the “duck boat” accident on the Delaware River had to pay a USD 17 million settlement for the victims and the families of the two Hungarian students who died that day. The families of Dóra Schwendter and Szabolcs Prém split USD 15 million, and nearly 20 other victims who were involved in the accident split USD 2 million, CNN wrote. Dóra Schwendter was only 16 at the time of the accident.
Furthermore,
they helped the family of the Hungarian victim of the 2012 Costa Concordia accident. Violinist Sándor Fehér worked aboard the ship as a musician.
According to suvivors’ reports, he tried to calm children and help them after the accident. Altogether 12 Hungarians had been on the ship carrying over 3,200 tourists and a crew of 800.
If you look at the Rónai and Rónai law firm’s Facebook page, you can find that they successfully represented many Hungarians in the USA. In July 2021, for example, they won 2.5 million dollars for a Hungarian construction worker who broke his leg in New York. In February 2020, they won USD 650,000 for a Hungarian woman involved in a motor vehicle accident who sustained a broken nose.
