Here is your chance to get nostalgic on a legendary Hungarian bus
Between 17 and 20 November, you will still be able to have a last ride on the legendary Ikarus 280 high-floor buses in Budapest, iho.hu, a Hungarian transport news website, wrote. Do not miss the chance, they recommend.
The Budapest Transport Company (BKK) will allow passengers to travel on high-floor buses between Thursday and Sunday. The last occasion Ikarus 280 buses commute in Budapest according to the timetable will be this Friday. However, there will be additional high-floor models driving around the city to get us in a nostalgic mood.
Celebrating the end of an era
After that, an era will end in Budapest: there will be no more active high-floor buses in Budapest. Of course, that change helps many people struggling with disabilities and having difficulties getting on or off the high-floor types. However, many may have good memories attached to the retiring old Ikarus buses. Below you may find when and where you can have one more ride on the legendary bus types.
17 November (Thursday)
Ikarus 280 buses will commute in the South Pest region on the 23E, 54, and 85-85E lines.
18 November (Friday)
The same will happen in the North Pest region according to the timetable. On the 20E line, four buses will serve the passengers, while on the 30–30A–230 line group, two will commute. Furthermore, one of them will make a round on 122 between 6 pm and 7 pm. One of the vehicles will be a folding-door type. Moreover, you may take photos of multiple old buses between 7.50 pm and 8.20 pm at the Szilas-patak bus station.
Meanwhile, an Ikarus 200 bus wearing a unique painting will serve the passengers between 2 pm and 7 pm, evoking the 2000s.
18, 20 November (Saturday, Sunday)
Ikarus 200 buses will return to the downtown streets from where they disappeared years ago. On Saturday, two articulated buses (Ikarus 280 and Ikarus 435) will commute on line nr 9. Furthermore, one Ikarus 260 will serve line 109. Here is a video of an Ikarus 260 bus:
On Sunday, the old buses will return to the Széll Kálmán Square on the Buda side (lines 16, 128-129, 139, 249).
