Zelensky: Hungary acts as a pro-Russia, anti-NATO state
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Sunday that it was “fortunately” not up to the Ukrainian president to decide if Hungary’s behaviour as a NATO member was appropriate or not.
Szijjártó responded to recent remarks by Volodymyr Zelensky stating that “Hungary’s behaviour as a NATO member is inappropriate”, MTI wrote. In an interview with Finnish, Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian journalists, Zelensky said “it is a very strange situation, can a NATO country be for Russia and against NATO?”.
Zelensky highlighted that only a NATO membership could protect Ukraine from a Russian aggression, rtl.hu wrote. That is highly unlikely. First, all NATO members must agree to accept Ukraine’s bid. Türkiye and Hungary have not even accepted the Swedish NATO accession. And there is no war or territorial dispute in Sweden. Ukraine is at war with Russia, and the NATO’s statute excludes accepting such bids. Probably that is why PM Viktor Orbán was shocked when he heard Jens Stoltenberg’s announcement last week in Kyiv, in which he said Ukraine would become a NATO member state. The Hungarian prime minister reacted with a short question on his Twitter page: “What?!”
And that is not only the concern of Hungary. Media outlets agree that even NATO’s strongest military power, the United States, would not support Ukraine’s NATO accession at the moment. Decision makers in Washington know well that such a move would trigger WWIII, a direct clash between the world’s strongest military alliance and Russia. The problem is not whether it could be fought with traditional weapons. The problem is that, concerning the thousands of nuclear warheads each party has, there would be no winner in such a war.
Hungary’s foreign minister stroke back on Zelensky
Szijjártó said “fortunately, this is not up to him to decide”. Hungarians have already paid an extremely high price for the war in Ukraine. Many Hungarians, members of the ethnic Hungarian community in Transcarpathia, have died in the war, he said on Facebook. If Zelensky’s remarks mean that the Ukrainian president thanks Hungary for “letting in and looking after more than a million refugees from Ukraine” and if he thanks us that “we are continually sending aid”, then “we say certainly, and they can continue to rely on us in the future”, Szijjártó said.

I wonder who will protect the world against other aggressions.
It’s not that long ago most countries/MSM despised Ukraine and the people voted against Ukraine joining the EU and Nato. MSM was far of positive about me. Z & co.
So what does the snake in the grass look like this time except for filling the pockets of only a few and distracting people from what is really going on?
How short-minded people keep surprising me but also why all the terror, and killings of the past nine, if not longer, years are still ignored. Wars are never provoked/started by Russia. It’s interesting to see how each time again the word given by (promises made) the West are so easily ignored or broken.
Szijjarto puts out misinformation. Hungary hosts the smallest contingent of Ukrainian refugees in Europe except for Belarus. Hungary has primarily served as a transit point for them to go elsewhere. Secondly the “Hungarians” Szijjarto refers to are Ukrainians citizens who fight for their country so don’t mislead anyone about “Hungarians” sacrificing themselves. As far as NATO is concerned Zelensky is completely correct about his assessment of Hungary’s lack of credibility and true allegiance. The secretary general of NATO would not publicly put forward the idea of Ukraine’s entrance into the organization if it was not a realistic prospect. Viktor Orban’s remarks are a sideshow that have no relevance outside of Hungary. Once the war ends in Ukraine negotiations on NATO entrance will be fast tracked along with reconstruction. The organization will not allow Hungary to obstruct anything because pressure can be brought to bear on any threat of using a veto as has already happened.
Szijjarto Peter – the Joseph Goebbels look alike – is a “loose canon.”
Propaganda that just CONTINUES being FEED out into Hungarian Society, this Minister, a major player, that just lacks factuality / truth.
Szijjarto as Foreign Minister of Hungary, the “lap” dog role he plays to Victor Orban, that displays the “gofer” he is, the “troubled waters” he has deepened Hungary, in Foreign Affairs and relationships, just not with the E.U. and NATO, but country’s that are DEMOCRACY’s.
Larry, in his excellent commentary, brings back to reality buy using FACTS – the subject matter of this article.
Hungary – this “misleading” factor in the vocabulary from Orban right through his Ministry – APPALLING, that a price – sooner than later they rightfully will PAY.
Larry and Deplorable have been eating silly pills. Presently, Ukraine is not eligible to join NATO, end of discussion. Hungary decided on neutrality, like Austria and Switzerland. Supporting war will only escalate and extend the death toll and the destruction of Ukraine. Just imagine how complicated is to help 1 1/2 million refugees for a small country? The number of refugees crossing from Ukraine is higher than 10% of the population of the country. The people of Hungary did rather well. It seems that beside China the Vatican is working on a peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine. Realistically, only Hungary, China, Austria, Switzerland and the Vatican are the only ones that are on the side of the people of Ukraine. They are the only ones that want to save the lives of Ukrainians and infrastructures of the country by ending the war.
